where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/04/25 00:01 ok i know this topic is old and yet i am gonna discuss it yet again, earlier today when i read my local newspaper this is what it had to say,

Reports: Stewart wants to leave Gibbs

Driver said to eyeing '09 move to Haas CNC

By David Poole

Two online reports citing unnamed sources said Wednesday that Tony Stewart wants out of the final year of a contract with Joe Gibbs Racing that runs through the 2009 season. Spotrs Illustrated's Internet site reported that Stewart "is working on the final stages of a deal" that would put him at Haas CNC Racing next year. ESPN.com, meanwhile, reported that Stewart is "intrigued" by the prospect of owning a team and said one scenario has Stewart getting up to a 50 percent ownership stake in Haas CNC Racing and driving one of its two Chevrolets. Haas CNC Racing gets its engines and other support from Hendrick Motorsports. The Observer tried unsuccessfully to contact Stewart and Joe Gibbs Racing President J.D. Gibbs for comment. J.D. Gibbs told ESPN.com's Marty Smith that Stewart "definitely has some options" but will remain with the Gibbs team through 2009. "There's no ifs, ands or buts about that one," Gibbs said. Stewart said last year he wanted to wait until after the season to talk about a contract extension, then said before this year began that those discussions had not taken place. The Gibbs team switched from Toyotas to Chevrolets before the 2008 season. "I am not concerned with the end of '09 right now because we have '08 to get through first," Stewart said during the preseason NASCAR media tour. "It's a topic with the team here and they want to get something taken care of, but I want to see how the beginning of this year goes and get halfway through the season before we worry about talking about it again. "Nothing has to be anyway. It's about now to me. We have a change of manufacturer here, lets worry about that and worry about winning races and then we'll worry about the rest of it." Stewart has won at least two races in each of his first nine seasons in NASCAR's Cup Series. He has 32 victories since coming from the Indy Racing League to begin full-time NASCAR competition in 1999. Only Jeff Gordon (39) and Jimmie Johnson (32) have as many wins in that span. Stewart won championships in 2002 and '05. He is seventh in the Cup standings with five top-10 finishes in eight races this year, but does not have a victory.

after reading this i think the chances of leaving Gibbs next year is looking very reallistic , he may very well buy half of Haas CNC , and yeah i've kept hearing about how Joey Logano will the next driver for the 20 car, J.D. Gibbs needs to be making some deals if he's so sure Tony will stay next year otherwise Tony may have himself half of Haas CNC or any other owner who is willing to negotiate , so yeah i do believe Stewart is gonna go elsewhere next year unless i hear different after a race when Tony says im staying on board with Gibbs for 09 and so forth , i may not be a Tony fan but i will give credit where credit is due and he is definitely one heckuva competitive driver and he makes a great rival for the 48 team or any other team for that matter , so more power to you Tony Stewart if you do leave Gibbs and start your on operation or hookup with someone, well thats it from me for now i look forward to seeing the respones back on this one, later all

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/04/25 02:03 sounds like JGR doesn't want to let him go early but why make somebody stay there if they don't want to.I think Tony will make a good owner/driver but I bet he would be hell to work for sometimes.

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/04/25 09:18 especially if something is no going right.. i would not want to hear him yelling in my ear..Exactly Honcho, why hold on to someone if they dont want to be there. If he wants out for next year and you hold on to him, you might have a situation on your hands where he is not being cooperative and hurt your team. Your best bet is to let him go.

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/04/26 11:34 If tony wants to do things right the first time, I feel he must do what Dale Earnhardt did with DEI and/or what Jeff gordon has done with the 48 car. Start a race team and continue on with JGR or become a co-own with Joe Gibbs himself. We've seen far to many people fail trieing to venture off by themselves and be a sole owner/ driver. Lets take Micheal Waltrip for example, or how about Ricky Rudd? How many people actually remember when Rudd tried to start his own team?

Why in the hell would he go to HMS when they just got Jr???Stop with the stupid posts cuz this is not going to work on this site when you all of us are serious about this sport and for your sake you will be hated for posts like this. and you will get beat on. These types of posts would work for any other sites but not here. For your sake I would stop acting 15 and start being serious. Dot be surprisd if you get bitten by the dawg again on this. If you know what is good for you, stop with the stupid posts its getting old. Stop drinking out of a baby bottle and drink some beer will ya.

The post really isn't about where will he go if he's let go of his contract, its about where he can go to be able to own, operate and win. Obviously HMS won't due. Look how long it took Gordon to get a deal in with Rick Hendrick to be a PARTIAL owner of the 48 car. It's clearly obvious to us that know a little about the sport that he would go to a lower tier team like CNC Motorsports and try to build back from the ground up. You're luck rookie, I went easy on you this time.

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/05/23 08:19 I know its been said and maybe you gdawg have said this. But what about Smoke starting his own team like Jr and and run with HMS where Smoke would do this with JGR?? I dont see why this would be a bad idea since you are seeing a lot of guys doing this now and running in the low tier NASCAR events like Nationwide, Whelen, etc. Or do you think Smoke gets out completely( which I dont see happening) and running Eldora full time??

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/05/27 06:54 Tony is gettin' on in age. He is already a successful businesman. If I was in his boots, I would be pullin' one of the other stars in on his own team as a branch off the JGR organization. This has been a good run for him, but it has lost some of its gleem, which happens. The two young guns are paving the way for the youngin's below. Tony knows that. He needs to continue to build on his current business successes which is going to include venturing into Sprint Car team ownership. Don't be surprized if young buys like David Regan or Vikers ends up with rides involving TSR. Sounds agressive. There are some great drivers who we will continue to see stand out and shine as the year goes on. Anyone of them, who probably jump at chance to drive with TSR / JGR affiliation.

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/05/27 06:59 PS

There is big money out there that probably has already approach Tony simply based on his on, off and with track business performance.

Sorry I did not read that first article in post one. Just my opinions above.

Re:where will Stewart go in 09? - 2008/07/10 22:54 well its good to see the rumors of tony leaving JGR to start his own team i read the other day that his sponsors for his team next year will be old spice and office depot, also read that maybe his number will be 14 or perhaps the 70 or 66 or just whatever he can get , anyways i think tony will do a lot better then most of the other drivers in the series who own and drive their own teams, and yes to add on some more i also read that newman may be the 2nd driver along with his operation, either way its gonna be good to see how well he does , later all
