#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/02 06:59 Richard Childress Racing will field a fourth Sprint Cup car next season backed by General Mills, a move that leaves Petty Enterprises searching for a new primary sponsor for its flagship No. 43 car.

RCR will unveil the No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet for the 2009 season, with a driver to be announced at a later date. The newcomer will join stablemates Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer, all of whom won races and qualified for NASCAR's Chase last year. Despite that success, team owner Richard Childress viewed eventual expansion as vital if he hoped to keep pace with rival organizations with more cars.

Re:#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/02 07:01 First I would like to say that this will definitly be interesting. It suck for Petty Enteprises though. Also, I would like to point out that this is only the first 2 paragraphs of the colum. You can find the rest on NASCAR.com

Re:#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/03 03:25 i wonder if bobby labonte will join RCR next year or stay on with petty , i know he is gonna finish out his year with petty this year but i cant help but wonder if he will go over to RCR , my personal is opinion is yes he will join RCR and yeah i am saying he will go back to victory lane with that organization , petty is good but i dont see the petty crew getting back to the winners circle for a long time, the facts are this , kyle needs to retire and richard needs to invest in a couple of top notch rookies who are in the nationwide series and help develop them into good competitive cup drivers, anyways sorry if i strayed off the topic a bit too much

Re:#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/03 05:40 Labonte, General Mills to RCR

Richard Childress Racing will field a fourth car in 2009 with sponsorship from General Mills, and Yahoo! Sports has learned that Bobby Labonte, the 2000 Cup champion, will be the driver.

Labonte, who has spent the past two-plus seasons driving for Petty Enterprises, will drive the No. 33 car.

Yahoo! Sports originally reported in February this exact story – that Labonte would be the driver of a fourth RCR car, with sponsorship from General Mills. At that time, Richard Childress acknowledged that he would field a fourth car, but denied Labonte would be the driver.

“No, no, no,” Childress told Fox Sports.

But sources close to the negotiations continue to confirm to Yahoo! Sports that a deal between Childress and Labonte is done.

Rumors of Labonte’s move to Childress began at the start of the 2008 season when Labonte signed to drive the No. 21 Nationwide car for Childress. It is expected the majority of the No. 21 team, headed by crew chief Shane Wilson, will move up to work on the new Sprint Car team.

Petty Enterprises had hoped signing a past champion like Labonte would help return the organization to respectability. It hasn’t worked out that way.

Since joining Petty Enterprises, Labonte has scored just 11 top 10s and no wins in 78 races.

A move to Childress would be a shot in the arm for Labonte’s career. One only has to look at how the move to RCR has helped the career of current points leader Jeff Burton, who since joining RCR has won at least one race in each of the past three seasons after going winless the previous four driving for Jack Roush.

Re:#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/03 08:46 Yeah, i don't think Labonte will go to RCR. And Wimmer does suck horribly bad. RCR's best bet would be a rookie sensation.

Re:#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/04 06:42 There are plenty of good Nationwide drivers to pick from. But, Petty Enterprises needs to do something otherwise IMO their best bet is to leave the Series. The reason I say this is I dont want the Petty's to look bad and not being able to field a competitive team. They have done so much for NASCAR that if they decide to leave NASCAR I wont be ripping them for doing it. I just think it might be the best thing for them.

Re:#33 Cheerios/ Hamburger Helper Chevy for RCR - 2008/04/04 06:55 I know but its just disappointing for a team of that prestige not being able to compete every Sunday..
