NASCAR says no to a #44-#00pts.swap - 2008/03/28 23:41 NASCAR said NO to a #44 - #00 pts swap: David Reutimann wanted to keep the points he earned in the #00 car during the first five races of the Sprint Cup season as he makes the switch to the #44 driven by Dale Jarrett for Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway. NASCAR said no. "They wouldn't let us switch," Reutimann said Friday. "It puts you back almost in the same boat you were before. It's aggravating." Reutimann was 27th in owner's points in the #00. Jarrett, who is retiring, was 34th in the #44 and only 16 points from falling out of the top 35 -- the cutoff for a guaranteed spot in the field for each Sprint Cup race. Michael Waltrip Racing announced last season that Reutimann would replace Jarrett after the first five races. John Darby, the Sprint Cup series director, said point swaps typically are granted only when there is a change in a business function or when an owner is trying to reorganize during the offseason. Sam Hornish Jr., for example, was given Kurt Busch's points at the start of this season as the newest member of Penske Racing so that he would be guaranteed a spot in the first five races. "This was never meant to be used to give a driver the best position he can get," Darby said. "Most people in the garage understand that." Rookie Michael McDowell will inherit Reutimann's points as the new driver of the #00.(ESPN.com)(3-28-2008)

IMO this should be the only reason they are allowed to swap points and nascar says no.Reutimann earned them,Hornish didn't earn his.

Re:NASCAR says no to a #44-#00pts.swap - 2008/03/29 06:49 I agree totally. David should be able to keep his points he earned in the 00 car and let the Rookie start over. Those are davids points not the Rookies.. This rule IMO needs changed.

Re:NASCAR says no to a #44-#00pts.swap - 2008/04/02 06:54 I'm kinda 50/50 opn this one. On one hand I see Reutimanns pont on being able to switch them over. On the other hand, I see NASCAR's stance on it. I can't honestly remember when NASCAR let someone switch points in the middle of a season. They are trying to be fair.

Re:NASCAR says no to a #44-#00pts.swap - 2008/04/02 08:30 There are but still. He earned those points before he moved into the 44 so why should he have Jarretts points?? I understand he is moving into a new car but still let him keep his points..

Re:NASCAR says no to a #44-#00pts.swap - 2008/04/03 08:52 NASCAR is being fair because they never allowed a points switch while a car switch was in transition before. In the off season they have but not during the regular season.
