very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/22 03:25 I guess there are not many Harvick fans here.I will admit it I'm a Harvick fan.anymore out there?????

Re:very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/22 16:54 i just cant bring myself to root for Harvick either, personally i think the guy is a fluke, they handed him his first victory right after he got the job driving the earnhardt machine, oh sure he won the daytona 500 and he's won a few other times in his career but personally i dont think he belongs in the cup series, ah well thats my opinion anyways

Re:very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/23 07:44 I tend to agree with you johnsonfan. But he has been pretty consistant this season. Of course he is with RCR so it shouldn't be to hard to remain consistant with a team of that caliper.

Re:very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/23 08:03 I dont know I think he got thrown into some pretty big shoes to fill after SR's death.I'm not saying he filled those shoes but I think he's done a pretty good job.dont forget RCR has had it's ups and downs as a team also.plus I don't think his first win was handed to him.For that team to perform well enough just 3 weeks after SR's death and win with a rookie driver is far from something handed to them.If anything I think Johnson is the one who has had everything handed to him.

Re:very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/23 08:37 HONCHO, I'm torn between what both you and johnsonfan said. I do believe Harvick getting into the CUP series was a fluke, at the time. I remember the Atlanta race in '01 and he remained up front all day, but I feel Gordon did let up a bit. But then again, look what happened at the Pepsi 400 later that year when Dale Jr. won. You know something was amiss when his average speed was 4 to 5 mph faster than the rest of the field. (Yes,Jr. was handed that win)I was at the Brickyard in '05 when Harvick won there and that was no fluke. He is a good racer and he belongs in the cup series because he's way to good for the Busch series. We've all witnessed the damage he causes in that series, he's always almost a sure bet to win.

Re:very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/23 09:47 I didn't think we were discussing whether JR was getting wins handed to him.I guess you can call him getting into the cup series a fluke,because it was a very bad accident that happened that got him here.One that I think we all never wanted to happen.Kevin especially.But I dont think Gordon gave him that win,if he could have won I think he would have took it.Wasn't it the same race a year earlier almost the same finish between SR and Bobby Labonte

Re:very few Harvick fans??? - 2007/07/23 10:10 You are right, no one ever wants to see a driver die, especially Big E. But I grant it to ya, thats just the way Atlanta races. It was Sr and Labonte the year before, then Harvick and Gordon, Edwards and Johnson. It's just a good running track. But back on the topic. I'm not trying to dis Harvick. He's proven he can win, He's shown he can contend week in and week out. I just honestly think that first win was kind of a gimme, the whole season that year seemed that way for many different drivers, not just Harvick.

I know a lot of people didnt like Big E but once he died I think everybody realized that we just lost a legend in NASCAR and that we wont ever see the way he drove for a long time. That year sucked for me cuz I was a Sr. fan and I was torn about the loss and I can honestly say I did root for him that year cuz I wanted too. So, I will reiterate what I said before. I know I said I cant find a way to root for him. But I take back what I said. I had to think back to that year of what happend and how I finished that year rooting for a rookie and then making the switch to Jr. the following year. So, to fix my cooments that I said before I will root for the guy but he is not my fav. driver.
